The 2024 Veterans Disability Compensation Rates

Inflation continued to affect the economy in 2023, significantly affecting the public’s cost of living. In response to rising inflation, the Veterans’ Disability Compensation Rates and the Social Security Costs for 2024 have increased. As the 2024 compensation rates have been adjusted, veterans and their dependents need to review and familiarize themselves with the new monthly payments they can expect depending on the veterans’ disability rate and the status of the veteran’s dependents. Note that these calculations are applicable starting December 1, 2023.

The Veterans’ disability compensation rates are calculated based on the veteran’s disability rating and the number/ types of dependent family members. The rates below reflect the cost of living adjustments made for 2024 due to the surging inflation.

Veterans with a 10-20% Disability Rate

Veterans with a 10% disability rate can expect a monthly payment of $171.23. In contrast, veterans who have a 20% disability rate are eligible to receive a monthly payment of $338.49. However, it is essential to note that veterans with a 10-20% disability rate cannot move to a higher rate even if they have dependents, whether it is a dependent spouse, child, or parent.

Veterans with a 30-60% Disability Rate

Calculating the expected veteran’s disability compensation for those classified between 30-100% is tied to the number and type of dependents, or lack thereof.

Veterans that fall within the 30-60% disability rating can expect the following basic monthly payments:
